CATWALK FASHION REPORT
from Milan, London and Paris.
From the catwalks of Milan, London, and Paris the fashion trends for Spring and Fall 2017 have been strongly influenced by the 1980's. Albeit with a 2017 twist. That's right the 80's. Big shoulders and sleeves dominated the runways. Bright block colours and oversized sweaters.
In the 80's the stunning Farrah Fawcett turned heads in this emerald green statin jumpsuit.
This year the Jumpsuit is a season stable almost every designer in London Fashion week has featured a jumpsuit in their 2017 Spring or Fall collection. Isabel Marant, Versace, DKNY runways, and Belstaff all featured fun and sexy jumpsuits
The oversized sweater another 80's look also took centre stage in fashion week. Top shop the leader for fashionable youth trends, showcased "supersized" sweaters and oversized jean jackets. Below Kate Moss, half-sister Lottie Moss strutted her stuff with the playful oversized sweater.
Melanie Griffith popularized this look in the 80's movie "working girl" and it was only a matter a time before this look dominated the Paris fashion runaway this season. Balenciaga and Jil Sander both went bold and padded, with their women's suit jackets and trench coats.
The return of the eighties and new wave style seemed to be everywhere. This nostalgic fashion trend brought fun, color, and bold prints to the runways throughout Europe. Many suit jackets and outerwear pieces were 80's in both cut and pattern. Even the models were styled in the 80's way. Which leads me to believe that with big shoulders there may be a return of the big hair and we all know what that means. The bigger the hair the smaller the hips.
“When I am not running through shopping malls I am designing clothes. Recently I designed this beautiful blue blouse for actress Hayley Atwell for the Television series Conviction. It was a pleasure to work with Hayley and the rest of the cast and to be the Costume Designer for Episodes 2 & 3.”
